Wild Card (2010 Vespoli ES V1 Wing Rigger)
First Girls Varsity (white tape)
The newest girl's boat is metallic blue with white lettering. The shell was given a name with a double meaning. A "Wild Card" is an unpredictable or unforeseen factor. Stanley W. Card was coach Raymond's Grandfather a 31 year veteran of the Boston fire department. He retired as a Captain in 1978. Using the name "Card" is a way honor the support his family has given to the Simsbury rowing program for more than 20 years. The G1 rowed the "Wild Card" in 2010 to win races at the Quinsigamond Cup, Farmington Cup, and CPSRA Regatta.
Wolf (2006 Vespoli EM V1)
Second Boys Varsity (orange tape)
The boys first boat is a gold Vespoli V1. The bow has a wolf painted on either side by 2009 alumni Brian Ganter. As the boat glides through the water it appears as the wolf is swimming along side the shell. The B1 won the 2009 Quinsigamond Cup, 2010 Farmington Cup, and the 2010 and 20011 CPSRA championship in the Wolf.
Pursuit (2006 Vespoli ES M2)
First Girls Varsity (pink tape)
"Pursuit" is a dark yellow Vespoli shell. The first girls rowed Pursuit in 2009 to wins at Quinsigamond Cup, Grand Finals at NEIRA, gold in the 2009 Head of Connecticut, and a win at the Farmington Head race. On a hot streak...Pursuit was rowed by the G2 in wins at the 2011 Quinsigamond Cup, NMH regatta, and CPSRA regattas.

Orion (2004 Vespoli DM M2)
Third Boys Varsity ( tape)
The Orion is a black shell with silver trim. It was purchased in 2004. 1st boys rowed this shell to a silver medal in the 2004 New England's. The Orion has won the 2010 Farmington cup and the CPSRA championship.
Betsy's Legacy (2004 Vespoli DS M2)
Third Girls Varsity (light blue tape)
The Legacy is a black shell with light blue lettering and trim. It was purchased in the spring of 2004 and is named after Betsy Collins, the former Head/Varsity Girls coach who retired after the fall of 2003. G2 rowed the boat to a come from behind win over Kent and a Public Schools championship in 2006. The "Legacy" was rowed in 2009 to a G2 Q-Cup win and a Head of Connecticut win. This spring (2011) the Leg has won the Tabor cup, Quinsigamond cup, and CPSRA regattas.

David P. Holden (2009 Vespoli EM Performer)

The Holden is named for David P. Holden, Business Manager for the Board of Education. Mr. Holden has been a supporter of the program over his many years in the Simsbury Public Schools. We thank Mr. Holden for his 30 years of service to the schools, town, and our team. Hayden T. Hawthorne (2008 Vespoli ES Performer)
First Novice Girls (light green tape)
The "Hawthorne" is named in honor of a former coach and President of Friends of Simsbury Crew. Herb was a collegiate rower at Yale winning several Eastern Sprint championships. His children rowed for Simsbury in the late 80's and early 90's. Herb has also been a coach of the Simsbury novice girls from fall 1997 through spring 2001. He acted as a mentor through his wisdom and words of encouragement.
Godspeed (1997 Vespoli DM Challenger)
Second Novice Boys (black tape)
The "Godspeed" is a Challenger DM that was purchased in 1997. Its colors are white and blue. The boys Junior 8 powered this boat to a bronze medal in the 1999 Stotesbury Cup Regatta. The shell also helped Simsbury boys win the HS division of the Youth 8 @ the 1997 Head of the Charles.
The Final Episode (1997 Vespoli DS)
Second Novice Girls (purple tape)
"The Final Episode" was named for a dance the girls performed in 1997. It is white with blue trim. 3rd girls powered this shell to a bronze medal in the 2003 New England's. The novice girls powered the Episode to a Silver medal at the 2007 CPSRA.

Argo (2001 Vespoli DM Millennium)

The Argo is a 2001 Millennium DM shell. It is black and yellow. The Argo was named for the mythical Greek boat used by Jason in his search for the Golden Fleece. Being sold in spring of 2012
Eclipse (2001 Vespoli DS Millennium)
Third Girls Varsity (white tape)
The "Eclipse" is a black shell with a silver stripe on the deck, and silver writing. It is a Millennium DS and was purchased in 2001. Spring of 2006 3rd girls rowed "eclipse" to its first Quinsigamond Cup victory since 2nd girls in 2004. Eclipse took G3 gold at the 2006 CPSRA. Sold Spring 2010.
Dark Horse (1994 Vespoli DM)
Sold to Avon Spring 2009
The Dark Horse is a 1996 DM. It is a white shell with blue trim. This boat had its section rot out and is now a non-sectional shell. This shell won the 1995 Head of the Charles in the Youth 8 HS division. The boat was sold April of 2009 to Avon high school.
Bad Cowboy (1994 Vespoli DS)
The Bad Cowboy named for a dance the girls performed back in '94. It is blue with white writing. This boat was rowed by the 3rd girls to a 4th place finish in the 2000 New Englands. This shell also won the 1995 Head of the Charles in the Youth 8 HS division.
Endeavor (2001 Vespoli DM Millennium)
The Endeavor is a Millennium DM that was purchased in 1999. It is black with yellow trim. Before we acquired the Endeavor, the USA team used it to win the lightweight 8 at the 1999 World Championships. The spring of 2000 the first boys rowed the boat to the first win at the Connecticut Championships since 1988. Sold to The Gunnery School spring 2006.
Concordia (1998 Vespoli DS Millennium)
The Concordia was purchased in 1998, and is a Millennium DS. It is black with a red deck and gold writing. Concordia means "Harmony" or "Unity." 1st girls rowed this boat to a bronze medal at the New England's in 2000. The boat was sold to Lewis Mills (Burlington, CT) in April of 2006. Its last strokes were taken by Simsbury rowers on Thursday April 13, 2006.
Pinnacle (1986 Vespoli B hull) This shell was originally a light yellow sectional shell. It was rowed by the 1st boats from 1986 through 1990. The Pinnacle is the name of the school's yearbook. At the time of its purchase the boat, several varsity members were on the yearbook staff. The varsity powered this boat to a 2nd place finish at the New England's in 1987. "Pinnacle" was donated to Lewis Mills so that they could increase their fleet.
In Sync (1987 Vespoli C hull) This boat was the first girls boat for several years. The purchase of the "Tailwind" in 1991 resulted in the "Insync" becoming a boys boat. The 1st boys rowed this boat to gold in the 1991 Head of Connecticut and a Quinsigamond Cup win the following spring. It stayed in the boys program until 1997 when it went back to the Novice girls team. The boat was sold in 2005 to Farmington high school.
Tailwind (1982 King Lightweight Women's 8) This boat was one of the most beloved boats in the history of the program. It was purchased in 1991 from Radcliffe and rowed by the girls program from 1991 to 1997. It later became a boys boat rowed by the 2nd and 3rd boats for several seasons. The "Tailwind" was sold in 2000 to St. Mark's school in Worcester, MA.
Go Blue (1982 Vespoli C hull) This boat was rowed for many years by the girls program. It won several races at the 1-3 boat level. It was sold to Stonington high school. Ken Godfrey '84 started the Stonington program and Simsbury helped with equipment. The GoBlue is displayed on the ceiling of the Mystic Seaport Museum.
Falco (1981 Vespoli B hull) Named for former head coach Joseph Falco (1978-1980). Boat was rowed to a bronze medal in the boy's second 8 at the 1989 and a gold medal in the boy's Junior 8 at the 1987 Stotesbury Cup Regatta. It has been also sold to the Stonington program.
Arthur W. McGrath (Shoenbroad) Named for former Simsbury high principal. Rowed by the girls to several New England championships. It was also rowed by the girls team to a 1980 win the Youth 8 at the Head of the Charles. The boat was sold to Jen Zebrowski '96 while she coached at Miami of Ohio.
73 donated to Stonington.
Red (Shoenbroad) Sold to Stonington. Currently on display in the National Rowing Foundation museum in Mystic, Connecticut.
Simsbury (1978) This boat was the first NEW boat purchased by the Friends of Simsbury Crew. It still resides in the boathouse in storage. Plans are in the works to have the bow mounted on the wall in the workout bay.
Lilia Nash (Shoenbroad) This shell still resides in the boathouse. It has been rowed occasionally by the coxswains in a inter-squad race. Now retired, The "Nash" is being rowed by Lewis Mills.
2004 Ford F350 Super Duty The navy blue truck was purchased by Friends of Simsbury Crew in the spring of 2004. Crew fundraising matched challenge grant from the Ensign Bickford Foundation.
2008 Mo 39' Side Load Trailer The trailer is galvanized and has built in steps at each of the racks. This trailer will carry 9 full eights and 3 fours. The team has also purchased diamond plate boxes for the trailer.
Paine Boathouse The boathouse was originally built in 1977 though contributions from the community. Originally the building had just the two boat bays with a coaches' office and bathrooms. The late 1980's brought expansion to include the workout bay, larger coaches' office, and launch bay. The summer of 2011 brought the replacement of the boat racks with metal roll out racks. Oar storage was also improved with a oar hanging rack. The new boat and oar racks improve the use-ability of the facility.
Workout Bay This room is equipped with 23 Concept 2 model C ergometers and enough sliders for one eight. The room also mirrors so athletes can watch their rowing. We have a trophy case and championship banners (state, New England, and National) are also contained in the room. There is also 5 disc changer, sound system, and video replay area. A recent alumni donation of several yoga mats has led to this area being used several times a week as a yoga studio.
